Reus extends contract with BVB until 2019: “He could become a legend”

Germany international Marco Reus has extended his contract with Borussia Dortmund until 2019 according to a message from the club. “I’m very happy with my decision to stay at BVB,” said the 25-year-old, who moved back to his home town club in 2012 from Borussia Mönchengladbach. “Dortmund is my home town and Borussia is my club. I’m looking forward to having a successful future at the club with our fantastic fans behind us. There’s a lot of work to be done and I want to get stuck in.”

Chief Executive Hans-Joachim Watzke said that many top clubs across Europe had been after the attacking midfielder: “We haven’t been affected by all the transfer rumours and knew that there was always a good chance that this incredible player wanted to commit his future to BVB. Marco could become a legend at Dortmund, just like Uwe Seeler in Hamburg or Steven Gerrard at Liverpool. The fact that Marco has chosen to stay at BVB in the middle of a crisis shows the highest level of pride and we’re very proud of that.”

Sporting Director Michael Zorc went on to say: “Marco Reus could have chosen almost any other club in the world. This decision that he has made shows that he loves the city and his home town club. He is going to be a hugely important part of Borussia Dortmund’s future.”
