Reus crowns comeback with superb strike

After six weeks on the sidelines, Germany international Marco Reus returned and guided Borussia Dortmund to a 3-1 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt on Bundesliga matchday 29. Dortmund remain in fourth place, as Hoffenheim recorded a 5-3 victory against Borussia Mönchengladbach to stay in third place. Second-placed side RB Leipzig strolled to a 4-0 triumph against SC Freiburg.

FC Augsburg landed a crucial 2-1 victory over 1. FC Köln but stay on the relegation play-off spot. VfL Wolfsburg secured a 3-0 win at FC Ingolstadt, while 1. FSV Mainz 05 prevailed over Hertha BSC with a 1-0 victory.

Reus’ back-heel gives BVB the lead

Only two minutes had been played in Dortmund, when Reus converted a cross from Christian Pulisic beautifully with his back-heel to give the hosts a lead. Frankfurt were back on level terms after 29 minutes however, with Marco Fabian’s deflected shot from range finding the target. The hosts soon regained the lead from Sokratis and in the closing stages of the game Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang bagged his 26th goal of the campaign to secure a 3-1 win for Dortmund.

The first half in Sinsheim offered plenty of entertainment. TSG took the lead from Adam Szalai’s brace inside the opening 25 minutes, but Jannik Vestergaard and Lars Stindl brought Gladbach back level before the break. Hoffenheim were back two goals in front midway through the second half, after goals from Kerem Demirbay and Mark Uth. Germany U21 international Mahmoud Dahoud restored some hope for the Foals with his goal after 78 minutes, but another strike from Demirbay in the closing stages saw Hoffenheim edge out Gladbach in a back and forth contest.

Werner on target in Leipzig victory

Yussuf Poulsen and Timo Werner gave Leipzig a two-goal lead at half-time. Freiburg, who stay in sixth place despite the defeat, struggled to find a breakthrough in the final third. Naby Keita and Diego Demme added their names to the scoresheet after the break, with Leipzig now guaranteed a spot in next year’s European competitions.

Augsburg, playing in their 100th Bundesliga home game, took the lead early against Köln with Martin Hinteregger on target after five minutes. Paul Verhaegh doubled the hosts’ advantage from the penalty spot in the 23rd minute. Philipp Max’ own goal midway through the second half was not enough for Köln to take any points back home, despite Augsburg finishing the game with just nine men on the pitch after Ja-Cheol Koo and Alfred Finnbogason received their marching orders in the closing stages of the game.

Gomez supplies finishing touch in Wolfsburg triumph

Wolfsburg struggled to create clear chances in Ingolstadt, but an own goal from Markus Suttner saw them take the lead just before the break. Yunus Malli doubled the advantage after the break and Germany international Mario Gomez fired home to claim a 3-0 win for the Wolves.

Mainz and Hertha produced a close contest with Danny Latza bagging the opener for the hosts just seconds from the half-time whistle. Hertha opened up after the break but Mainz were able to hold onto their slim lead to claim the three points. For Hertha, it was already their eight consecutive away loss.
