Relegation battle under the floodlights: HSV host SC Freiburg

Matchday 32 kicks off on Friday evening (20:30 CEST) with a crunch match in the relegation battle. 14th placed Hamburger SV play host to Freiburg, who currently lie in the relegation zone, with just one point separating them.

Things have turned a corner for HSV since the recent change of manager. Under Bruno Labbadia Hamburg have collected six points from three games. Furthermore, the manager appears to have unleashed the teams attacking qualities. The north German side have managed five goals in their last two games, following a run of six without a goal.

Even though things are going somewhat better, HSV are not quite immune from set backs. Hamburg will be without Nicolai Müller, who is suffering from a bone oedema on the ankle, for the final games of the season. In addition, Ivo Ilicevic is a doubt for Friday’s game due to a thigh injury.

Freiburg on the edge

For the guests from Freiburg there hasn’t been much to celebrate recently. Two points from the last four games is not good enough when you find yourself involved in a relegation battle. A small silver lining for them is that both those points came away from home. The problem is that only a win will do.

For that you need to score goals. The hopes, therefore, rest on the shoulders of loanee Nils Petersen, who has scored all three goals in their last few games. Despite muscle problems, the 26-year-old striker should be available to play. Elsewhere, it is still uncertain whether wingback Oliver Sorg or midfielder Mike Frantz will be able to play.
