Records broken and landmarks reached: the national team’s year in stats

Twelve times the national anthem sounded and 12 times was entertainment the name of the game. This year has once again seen Germany’s national team serve up plenty of excitement for the fans, from the 2-1 defeat of France in February to the recent 1-0 win over England. Aside from good results, 2013 also yielded a number of landmarks, with an outstanding finisher taking the limelight once again. DFB.de takes a statistical look at the national team’s year.

2013 – THE YEAR IN FIGURES

Overall record: 12 matches, nine wins, two draws, one defeat. Goal difference: +20 (35 for, 15 against).

Leading goalscorers: Thomas Müller (6), André Schürrle (4), Lars Bender (3), Mario Götze (3), Mesut Özil (3).

Most goals and assists combined: Mesut Özil (9; 3+6), Thomas Müller (8; 6+2), Toni Kroos (6; 1+5).

Records: On 6 September in Munich, Miroslav Klose struck the 68th goal of his Germany career against Austria, taking him past Gerd Müller as the national team leading goalscorer. Meanwhile, on 29 May in Boca Raton, Lukas Podolski scored Die Mannschaft’s fastest goal of all time when he found the back of the net against Ecuador after just nine seconds.

Largest attendance: 85,934 (London, England, 19 November).

Smallest attendance: 4,181 (Torshavn, Faroe Islands, 10 September).
