Real Madrid miss chance to qualify for the last sixteen

Real Madrid have surprisingly missed their chance to secure qualification for the last sixteen of the Champions League. They took a 2-0 lead against Polish champions Legia Warschau but the match ended 3-3 at the final whistle. Madrid are now eight points behind Borussia Dortmund who have already secured their place in the next round.

Gareth Bale scored to put Real Madrid in the lead after just 55 seconds, Real Madrid’s fastest ever Champions League goal. Karim Benzema scored to make it 2-0 in the 35th minute. Legia Warschau got themselves back into the game through Vadis Odjidja-Ofoe and Miroslav Radovic in the 40th and 58th minute respectively. Moulin put Real Madrid back into the lead in the 83rd minute but Mateo Kovacic equalised for Legia Warschau.

Khedira draws with Juventus

Sami Khedira’s Juventus are also yet to secure their place in the last sixteen of the Champions League. Juventus drew 1-1 against Olympique Lyon and now have just eight point. Gonzalo Higuain converted his penalty in the 13th minute to put Juventus in the lead, but Olympique Lyon scored a late equaliser through Corentin Tolisso in the 85th minute. FC Sevilla have already qualified for the last sixteen after beating Dynamo Zagreb 4-0.
