Real and Kroos celebrate late winner

Toni Kroos and Real Madrid took an important step forward in the tense Primera Division title race. Matchday 35 saw Real celebrate a 2-1 home win over FC Valencia. Cristiano Ronaldo headed the Royals into the lead after a perfect cross from right-back Dani Carvajal (27’). A foul on Luka Modric in the penalty area led to a penalty, but the hosts failed to double their lead as Ronaldo’s shot from the spot was saved by Diego Alves (57’).

Real were in control of the game with Kroos pulling the strings in the midfield, but were made to pay for the chances they missed when Dani Parejo’s perfect free-kick found the top left corner from 26 metres out. Madrid raised their game in response and clinched the lead once more through Marcelo, who scored from 14 metres out with a right-footed effort.

The three points for Real mean that they return to the top of the table. Barcelona and Marc-Andre ter Stegen can leapfrog Real once more if they win their derby game against Espanyol, but the advantage still lies with Madrid, who have a game in hand to play against Celta Vigo.

Zieler and Huth’s Leicester victorious

English champions Leicester City find themselves on the march in the Premier League again. The defending champions won away against West Bromwich Albion by a scoreline of 1-0, which propelled them up to 11th in the table standings.

Striker Jamie Vardy (43’) scored the only goal of the game for City, thanks to an assist from former Bundesliga player Shinji Okazaki. Ex-Germany international Robert Huth started for Leicester, whilst world champion Ron-Robert Zieler looked on from the bench.
