Rauball: "The players can be very proud"

Germany claimed their second European under-21 Championship title with a 1-0 win over Spain in Krakow on Friday evening. Mitchell Weiser’s first half header turned out to be the match winning goal. DFB.de gathered all the reaction to the spectacular win in Krakow.

DFB president Reinhard Grindel: “Winning the European Championship title is not something you do every day. The team’s performance exemplified how hard all the players and staff have been working together. Stefan Kuntz has certainly put his mark on the team.”

Grindel on the team: “It might take a few days for this victory to sink in. You managed to achieve what you set out to do on your motto: ‘We will write our own history.’ When you stand together as a team, are committed and have faith in your own strengths, then you can achieve great things that others thought you were not capable of. Today, you claimed the European under-21 Championship title, because you were simply the better team.”

Head coach Stefan Kuntz: “I am incredibly pleased for the team. We totally deserved to win, it is all so overwhelming.”

Match winner Mitchell Weiser: “It feels incredible, what an unbelievable match. I have never been part of a team that has fought so hard.”

DFL president Dr. Reinhard Rauball: “Congratulations to our under-21s on this incredible achievement. I would also like to congratulate Stefan Kuntz and all the coaching and support staff. The players can be very proud of themselves for what they have achieved over the course of the tournament. I hope that they all play as much football as possible in the upcoming season.”

DFL managing director Christian Seifert: “I would like to congratulate Stefan Kuntz and his team on their outstanding win. It has been great fun watching the team go so far in this tournament, especially because most of the young players have come through the academies of Bundesliga teams. Winning the European Championship title will give the players a real boost in their career and will also motivate other young talents.
