Provisional Northern Ireland squad announced

Michael O'Neill has included 28 players in his provisional squad for this year’s European Championship, which takes place in France next month. Five members of the squad are currently plying their trade in the Premier League. Defenders Jonny Evans, Gareth McAuley (both West Bromwich Albion), Patrick McNair (Manchester United), Craig Cathcart (Watford) and midfielder Steven Davis (Southampton) made the cut, as did Daniel Lafferty, who plays for newly promoted Burnley, and Kyle Lafferty, who was part of the Norwich City side who were relegated from the top flight a few weeks ago.

Northern Ireland face Belarus in a friendly in Belfast on 27th May, with the final squad for the tournament being announced one day later. Their final game ahead of EURO 2016 takes place on 4th June, when they face Slovakia. They were drawn alongside Germany in Group C and face Die Mannschaft in their final game of the opening round. The match will be played on 21st June.
