Surprising, but true: never before have the German and Austrian women’s national teams played each other in a football match. However that will all change on 22nd October, when the Olympic champions come up against their Austrian neighbours at the Continental Arena in Regensburg.
While head coach Steffi Jones’ side had managed to secure qualification for the EURO 2017 in the Netherlands some time ago, the Austrians only earned their ticket to the tournament finals in the last match of qualification. It is the first time the Austrian women’s team have ever qualified for the tournament. The Germany squad have appeared at the finals of the tournament on numerous occasions and will be defending their title at the competition.
Following their duel with Austria, Germany will take on hosts the Netherlands on 25th October at the Scholz Arena in Aalen. The last international match of the calendar year will be held on 29th November at the communty4youArena in Chemnitz against Norway.
