Portugal held to 0-0 draw by Austria

Portugal and Austria failed to improve their situation in Group F heading into the final matchday, as they recorded a 0-0 draw on Saturday evening and now risk elimination. Portugal are currently in third place with two points from two games, while Austria is last with one point. Hungary remain at the top of the group with four points, having drawn 1-1 against Iceland earlier in the day.

Austria got off to a promising start in Paris and nearly took the lead three minutes into the match. Marcel Sabitzer delivered a cross to Martin Harnik, whose header was just off target. Portugal and their three-time World Footballer of the Year Cristiano Ronaldo took charge of the game afterwards, but failed to break the deadlock despite excellent opportunities. Austria keeper Robert Almer made several key saves before Ronaldo missed a penalty in the 79th minute.

Portugal's final game will be on Wednesday against Hungary in Lyon, while Austria take on Iceland in Saint-Denis.
