Poland goalless in last EURO 2016 warm-up match

Without Bundesliga top goalscorer Robert Lewandowski, Germany’s group stage opponents Poland were unsuccessful. Ten days before their clash with the world champions in Group C (Paris, 16th June), the Poles bid farewell to their fans in Krakow on Monday with a 0-0 draw against Lithuania. Lewandowski, who scored 30 goals last season for FC Bayern, was rested. Five days earlier, the EURO 2012 hosts lost 2-1 to the Netherlands.

The ex-Dortmund player Jakub Blaszczykowski (AC Florenz) played on the right side of defence on Monday in an uninspiring Polish team. BVB player Lukasz Piszczek however, viewed all 90 minutes from the bench.

The hosts had a surprising number of problems. After just 14 seconds, Lithuania’s Arvydas Novikovas of VfL Bochum found himself one-on-one against goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski, but failed to hit the target. From this point on, the four-man defence seemed vulnerable. The Poles had a few chances on goal themselves, one of which came from a direct free kick by former Leverkusen player Arkadiusz Milik in the 78th minute.

As well as Germany, Poland will face opposition of Northern Ireland (12th June, Nice) and Ukraine (21st June, Marseille)
