Poland get off to winning start in Group C

Germany’s Group C rivals Poland began their EURO 2016 campaign with a 1-0 win over tournament debutants Northern Ireland in the evening fixture on Sunday. Adam Nawalka’s side put on a dominant performance in the game that saw attacker Arkasdiusz Milik score the only goal.

It was the Poland side’s first win at a European Championship in their seventh attempt. 2015/16 Bundesliga top scorer Robert Lewandowksi had a quiet game, with his teammate Milik having the better of the game’s chances.

Matchday two in Group C sees Northern Ireland pitted against Ukraine on Thursday (18:00 CEST) in Lyon, before Poland and Die Mannschaft face off in the later fixture in Saint-Denis (21:00 CEST)

Croatia claim opening victory over Turkey

Croatia got off to a bright start at EURO 2016 thanks to a 1-0 victory over Turkey, taking a big step towards the knockout stages. Real Madrid's Luka Modric scored the winning goal from a well-taken volley in the 42nd minute.

Spain and the Czech Republic will play the second game of matchday 1 in Group D on Monday. Next up for Croatia are the Czech Republic on Friday. On the same day, Turkey will entertain defending champions Spain.
