Points shared between Paderborn and Bremen

The first Sunday game on Bundesliga matchday 30 produced a 2-2 draw between SC Paderborn and SV Werder Bremen. It was a disappointing result for Paderborn, as the newly promoted side put in a strong performance but failed to pick up an important victory in their bid to avoid relegation. Bremen were trailing SCP for long spells of the game, but salvaged a point in the end.

Paderborn are currently in 17th place with 28 points to their name, while Werder failed to improve their position in the race for the Europa League, trailing sixth-placed Augsburg by three points as they drop into 9th.

The game featured a slow start by both teams before Paderborn's Elias Kachunga recorded the first opportunity, firing wide after 20 minutes. Several minutes later Franco Di Santo did the same at the other end.

Paderborn strike twice within one minute

The game then picked up pace after these two opening chances. Mario Vrancic scored the opener in the 26th minute, connecting beautifully with the ball from 12 yards out following a corner kick. Encouraged by their opening goal, Paderborn continued to play forward and doubled their advantage just one minute later through Moritz Stoppelkamp.

Chances were now created frequently at both ends and Bremen's U19 European Champion Davie Selke pulled one back for the visitors shortly before the half time whistle.

Hajrovic scores first Bundesliga goal

Paderborn continued to show a determined performance in the second half but failed to add to their lead. Bremen struggled to find a gap in the attacking third but fortunately for them their coach Viktor Skripnik had the right inclination and brought on Izet Hajrovic, who went on to score his maiden Bundesliga goal just 85 seconds after his substitution.

The hosts suffered another setback when Michael Heinloth was sent off for a second bookable offense but SCP continued to look for the winning goal. They created several promising opportunities, with Koc missing their best chances just five minutes prior to the final whistle.
