The 29-year-old attacker made his debut off the bench and played a significant part in the result. “Good performance from the team last night, I enjoyed my first game in an Inter jersey! Looking forward to the San Siro next,” Podolski wrote on Instagram ahead of his new club’s home fixture against Genoa on Sunday.
Mancini: “He can contribute a lot”
Roberto Mancini also spoke positively about Podolski, who spent the last six months on Arsenal’s bench. “He has already settled in, he can bring a lot to the team,” said the 50-year-old. The 121-time Germany international made a 36-minute appearance in the game.
Mancini brought on Podolski as a substitute for the former Stuttgart player Zdravko Kuzmanovic after 54 minutes. The change brought added impetus to Inter’s attacks. The Italian media feel that Podolski’s influence could see Inter fight for a European place. “With Podolski on the left side the Black and Blues seem much more confident. Podolski shows his personality on the pitch and helps Inter in the opposition’s half,” reported the Gazzetta dello Sport.
The Corriere dello Sport also stated: “Podolski’s performance reflects his personality,” while the Corriere della Sera wrote: “After Podolski came into the game Inter finally began to grow.”
