Play-off blockbuster: Hoffenheim draw Liverpool

1899 Hoffenheim will face Liverpool, the fourth-placed finishers of last season’s English Premier League, along with coach Jürgen Klopp and Germany international Emre Can in the Champions League play-offs. The fixture was revealed in today’s draw at UEFA’s headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland.

“They’re definitely not jumping for joy in Liverpool after that draw,” said TSG Hoffenheim coach Julian Nagelsmann. “It’s great for the awareness of our club; this draw will bring us fully into the spotlight.”

The first legs of the play-offs will be staged on 15th and 16th August, and then the second legs will follow on 22nd and 23rd August. Hoffenheim qualified for the Champions League play-offs owing to their fourth-place finish in the Bundesliga last season. Champions Bayern München, runners-up RB Leipzig and DFB-Pokal winners Borussia Dortmund go straight through to the group phase.
