Platini accepts invitation to DFB assembly

UEFA President Michel Platini will attend this year’s DFB Bundestag, the association’s annual assembly, scheduled to be held on October 26 in Mainz. Platini accepted the invitation extended by DFB President Dr. Theo Zwanziger and UEFA Vice President Gerhard Mayer-Vorfelder, who had met the former captain of "l'equipe tricolor" today at the UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland.

“We are pleased that Michel Platini will be with us in Mainz”, said Theo Zwanziger after the meeting. “Platini’s attendance of the Bundestag is testimony to the productive atmosphere between the DFB and UEFA, as well as the good relationship between the two presidents. At the same time, his visit reflects the international standing of the DFB. We have found that we are on the same wavelength on many issues.”

Regarding the meeting, Zwanziger said: “We had very productive talks in a pleasant atmosphere. Topics of the immediate future were discussed. I have assured the President, that we will support his reforms every step along the way. In fact, his agenda corresponds to our goals in many respects. We look forward to cooperating with Michel Platini for many years.”

Commenting on the meeting, Michel Platini said: "German football plays an instrumental role in all matters and projects UEFA plan to realise. We had very productive discussions and I look forward to a fruitful working relationship with Dr. Zwanziger, Gerhard Mayer-Vorfelder and the DFB as a key member of the European football family."
