Olympic champion Mittag signs for Wolfsburg

VFL WOLFSBURG: Olympic champion Anja Mittag has returned to the Bundesliga, moving for VfL Wolfsburg from Paris Saint-Germain. The 31 year old forward, who won gold with the Germany Women’s Olympic team in Rio this summer, has signed on with VfL until June 2018.

“I am looking forward to return to my home country, and especially the new challenges here at VfL Wolfsburg” said Mitte upon completing the transfer. “My aim is to integrate myself quickly and contribute to the team achieving its aims for the coming season. I am happy to be a part of this excellent side.”

Head coach Ralf Kellerman is look forward to his new arrival: “Anja Mittag is a fantastic leader who will be able to help the team both on and off the field. We are delighted, that we were able to complete this transfer and have yet another Olympic gold medallist in the VfL Wolfsburg ranks.

Mittag left the Bundesliga in 2012 when she joined Swedish team FC Rosengard from 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam, going on to move to French giants Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2015. She has made 144 appearances for Germany, scoring 46 times. In her time with the national team she has won the World Cup in 2007, three European Championships (2005, 2009, 2013), a bronze medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and most recently gold in Rio.
