Özil’s Arsenal suffer defeat at Chelsea

Chelsea inflicted a 2-0 derby defeat upon Mesut Özil and Arsenal on a painful Premier League matchday 6. The Gunners finished the game with just nine men, after Gabriel Paulista and Santi Cazorla received their marching orders from referee Mike Dean. Kurt Zouma bagged the opener after half-time and a late strike by Eden Hazard assured victory for Chelsea over their London-based rivals.

The 41,584 spectators inside Stamford Bridge witnessed an intense and hard-fought match. Chelsea's Diego Costa should have been sent off before the break, after throwing an arm into Arsenal's Laurent Koscielny’s face. He also provoked Gabriel several minutes later, who reacted and the Arsenal defender was sent off, recieving a straight red card.

Zouma's headed goal essentially decided the game, but Arsenal's chances of a comeback became even slimmer when Carzola was booked for a second time, leaving the away side with just nine men. Chelsea doubled their lead in injury time, when Hazard's shot was deflected in by Calum Chambers, giving former Blues-keeper Petr Cech no chance.

Mesut Özil was brought off in the second half. Per Mertesacker was again not available, after being sidelined by a viral-infection. He was also involved in a car crash this week, but luckily sustained no injuries.
