Özil shines for Arsenal as Werner nets winner for Leipzig

Led by strong performances from Germany internationals Timo Werner and Mesut Özil, Bundesliga side RB Leipzig and English Premier League club Arsenal both took a step towards the last four of the Europa League. Werner scored the winner for Ralph Hasenhüttl's Bundesliga outfit against French side Olympique Marseille in a 1-0 win, while world champion Mesut Özil was instrumental as Arsenal beat CSKA Moscow 4-1 in London. Özil had a hand in all four goals, assisting three.

Werner’s winner came on the stroke of half time, as he collected a pass from teammate Emil Forsberg before cutting inside to fire home low and hand his side the advantage going into next week’s return leg.

Özil involved four times as Arsenal score four

Arsene Wenger’s side scored all of their goals in the first half, and Özil was on hand to provide three of the assists for his team.

He was fouled for Alexandre Lacazette’s penalty in the 23rd minute to restore Arsenal’s lead at 2-1, before a delightful through ball for Aaron Ramsey to flick home a third. Özil then set up Lacazette for a fourth before the break.
