Özil scores in Arsenal's London derby win

Germany international Mesut Özil and Shkodran Mustafi helped Arsenal defeat London rivals West Ham United 3-0 on Wednesday night. All the goals came in the second half and Özil gave Arsene Wenger’s side the lead just before the hour. Theo Walcott doubled the lead ten minutes later and French striker Olivier Giroud got the third towards the end. The result sees the Gunners move up to fifth in the table, one place ahead of Manchester United.

Manchester City are one place better off after losing 2-1 to Chelsea. Leroy Sané played the full 90 minutes on the left side of midfield. Two goals from Eden Hazard either side of a Sergio Aguero equaliser helped Chelsea maintain their lead at the top of the league, while City slipped further back from the automatic Champions League places.

The reason for that is because Liverpool drew 2-2 with AFC Bournemouth. Jürgen Klopp’s Reds, including Emre Can, went behind early but looked to have done enough to win the game after goals from Philippe Coutinho and Divock Origi. However, a late goal from Josh King gave Bournemouth a share of the spoils.

Can and Liverpool remain third in the table with 62 points, three behind Tottenham, who came from behind to beat Swansea City 3-1 away from home.

Khedira and Juventus reach the final

One day after his 30th birthday, Germany international Sami Khedira has reached the final of the Coppa Italia with his club, Juventus. In the second leg of the semi-finals, SSC Napoli beat Juventus 3-2, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the first leg’s scoreline, which finished 3-1 to Juventus in Turin on the 28th of February. Khedira’s team are set to meet Lazio in the final on the 2nd of June in Rome.

Marc-André ter Stegen and Barcelona triumphed 3-0 against fourth placed Sevilla in what was the best game of the Primera Division’s Matchday 30. The goals all came in the first-half, from Luis Suarez in the 25th minute after a cut-back, and Lionel Messi in the 28th and 33rd minute. Barcelona currently sit on 69 points in second, behind league-leaders Real Madrid.

Real played guest to CD Leganes, but were without World Champion Toni Kroos. Madrid won their match 4-2 thanks to an opening goal from James Rodriguez (15’) and two goals from Alvaro Morata, before Leganes scored in the 32nd and 34th minute to equalise. Morata struck again shortly after half-time, and the scoreline stayed the same after his 49th minute goal.
