Özil scores in 3-3 draw vs. Liverpool

World Champion Mesut Özil helped his Arsenal side come back from two goals down against Liverpool to claim a point on Friday evening. At home against fellow Germany international and Confed Cup winner Emre Can’s Reds, the 29 year old got the goal which momentarily gave his team a 3-2 lead (58’), before the visitors replied with an equaliser.

The more effective guests took a two-goal lead through Philipp Coutinho (26’) and Mohamed Salah (52’).Then, almost straight after, the Gunners woke up and netted three quick-fire goals to turn the game on its head (Sanchez 53’, Xhaka 56’, Özil 58’). However, former Hoffenheim striker Roberto Firmino, assisted by a great pass from Can, made sure Jürgen Klopp’s men left London with a point.

Shkodran Mustafi, who has been out for three weeks due to injury, was substituted on in the second half. Ahead of the Boxing Day games, the Londoners remain one place and one point behind fourth-place Liverpool.
