Özil scores and wins, ter Stegen saves penalty

Arsenal, with World Cup winners Mesut Özil and Per Mertesacker kept their Champions League dreams alive as they beat Zagreb 3-0 at the Emirates. The fourth-place Premier League side can clinch qualification to the Round of 16 by beating Olympiacos by two goals or more away from on home on the last matchday of the group stage.

Özil put the Gunners 1-0 up after 29 minutes, and Alexis Sánchez doubled their lead and then made it three, scoring goals in the 33rd and 70th minutes.

Barcelona thrash their next opponent

Just three days after Barca dispatched Real Madrid in El Clásico, they moved on to the Champions League and beat Serie A outfit Roma 6-1. Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez got braces, while Piqué and Adriano got the remaining goals. Edin Dzeko scored in injury time, shortly after his penalty was saved by ter Stegen, but it served only as a consolation. Meanwhile in Group E, Leverkusen drew 1-1 with BATE Borisov, meaning they can only get through if they beat Barcelona on the last matchday.

Setback for Mustafi’s Valencia

Valencia lost 2-0 to the already qualified Zenit St. Petersburg last night, sliding down to third in their group. Germany defender Shkodran Mustafi was not in appearance as the World Cup winner is still out injured.
