World Champion Mesut Özil was on the scoresheet for Arsenal, as they beat West Ham United 5-1 on matchday 14 of the Premier League. The result means that Arsenal moved up to second place in the table, at least for the time being. The Germany international scored in the 24th minute to give Arsenal the lead, while the superb Alexis Sanchez (72’, 80’, 86’) and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (84’) were also on target for the Gunners. Andy Carroll scored West Ham’s only goal of the game in the 83rd minute.

Shkodran Mustafi was also in Arsenal’s starting eleven for the game. With 31 points on the board, Arsenal now sit in second place behind leaders Chelsea (34 points). However, Jürgen Klopp’s Liverpool side have the chance to overtake the Gunners with against Bournemouth today.

Gündogan and Sané miss chance to go top

Manchester City missed their opportunity to go top of the Premier League, with both national team players, Ilkay Gündogan and Leroy Sané, starting for the home side. The side managed by former FC Bayern coach, Pep Guardiola, lost 3-1 to in-form Chelsea and remain on 30 points in fourth place.

The Blues got off to the better start at the Etihad stadium, before the home side gained more control as the first half wore on. City then went ahead shortly before the break, as Gary Cahill turned the ball into his own net (45’). After the interval, Chelsea looked to be more positive. They were rewarded soon afterwards, with Cesc Fabregas long-ball finding Diego Costa, who finished from 12 yards out to make 1-1 (60’). Willian then put the away side into the lead with solo effort (70’), before Eden Hazard caught City on the break in the 90th minute to seal the victory. That wasn’t the last of the action though, as both Sergio Aguero and Fernandinho were given red cards in injury time.

Meanwhile, an own goal from former Germany national team player Robert Huth (64’) helped Sunderland record a 2-1 win over defending champions Leicester City. Ron-Robert Zieler was again in goal for Claudio Ranieri’s side.

Ramos rescues a point for Real Madrid in el Classico

With Marc-André ter Stegen in goal, Barcelona could only draw 1-1 in their home game against league leaders Real Madrid. The result means that the Catalans remain six points behind arch rivals Real Madrid.

Barcelona were the more active team in a first half with very few clear-cut chances. Real Madrid defended well, however, and could have even gone into the lead, but for ter Stegen saving from Cristiano Ronaldo twice in quick succession (38’).

The contest remained even at the start of the second half, in what was the 265th match between the two giants of Spanish football. However, Luis Suarez was on hand to nod home a Neymar free-kick from yards out, to give the home side the lead in the 53rd minute. Real, who were without the injured World Champion Toni Kroos, pushed hard for an equaliser and were rewarded in the 90th minute, as Sergio Ramos’s powerful header beat ter Stegen in the Barcelona goal (90’).
