Özil on target as Arsenal draw with West Ham

Despite a goal from World Champion Mesut Özil and having a two-goal lead at one point in their game with West Ham, Arsenal were denied a victory on Premier League matchday 33 with the match ending in a 3-3 draw. In the end, they were even fortunate to get a point at all, as they found themselves behind before Laurent Koscielny’s equaliser 20 minutes from the final whistle.

Özil gave Arsenal the lead, before Alexis Sanchez doubled the advantage after 35 minutes. A brace of goals from Andrew Carroll shortly before half-time saw West Ham take momentum into the second half and Carroll added a third just seven minutes after the restart.

World Champion Per Mertesacker did not make an appearance for Arsenal, sitting on the bench for the full 90 minutes. Arsenal remain third in the league with 59 points to their name, with table toppers Leicester likely out of reach as they are now ten points clear.

Kroos on the bench in Real win

Three days before their Champions League quarterfinal return leg against VfL Wolfsburg (Tuesday, 20:45 CEST), Real Madrid eased to a 4-0 victory against SD Eibar in the Spanish Primera Division. Zinedine Zidane was able to rest several stars for the midweek match, including World Cup winner Toni Kroos.

James Rodriguez (5‘), Lucas (18‘), Cristiano Ronaldo (19‘) and Jese (39‘) wrapped things up in the first half as Real reduced the gap behind Barcelona to just four points (76), with the Catalan side in action this evening against Real Sociedad.

Podolski loses ground with Galatasaray

World champion Lukas Podolski is set to miss out on European football next season with Turkish record champions Galatasaray. The reigning champions were held to a 1-1 draw against Caykur Rizerspor in the Süper Liga, falling further behind the European spots in sixth place.

Emre Colak put Galatasaray in to the lead after 88 Minute, before Patryk Tzszynski (90.) grabbed an equaliser for the quests right at the death. The draw extends Gala’s poor run of form to five without a win.
