Özil on course for Champions League football with Arsenal

World Champion Mesut Özil and Arsenal are still on track to finish in the European places in the Premier League. The Gunners recorded a 2-0 victory over West Bromwich Albion in their rearranged match from matchday 30. With four games left, Arsene Wenger’s side sit third with 63 points, giving them a good chance of gaining direct qualification to the Champions League.

The gap between Arsenal and fourth-placed Manchester City (61) has now increased to two points. The two teams will face off on the season’s penultimate matchday in Manchester. Arsenal are no longer in the title race as of this week, as surprise-table-toppers Leicester are already ten points ahead with 73 points, while Tottenham Hotspur are second with 68.

Chile international Alexis Sanchez scored a brace in the first half but the match was uneventful after the break. Germany internationals Özil and Per Mertesacker both stood in the starting XI for Arsenal. Arsene Wenger replaced Özil with Joel Campbell in the 86th minute.
