World Champion Mesut Özil celebrated victory with Arsenal on his 100th Premier League appearance. The Londoners beat West Bromwich Albion on Boxing Day thanks to a late header from Frenchman Olivier Giroud to give the Gunners a 1-0 win. Özil set up the goal with a delightful cross.
Arsene Wenger’s side had slipped to fourth place in the table after two defeats in a row. Their 11th win of the season lifts Arsenal to 3rd behind Liverpool for now, who take on Stoke City on Tuesday, 27th December.
The hosts clearly dominated for large periods of the game at the Emirates Stadium. However it was not until just minutes before the final whistle that Özil set up the win with his ball into the box. Özil’s fellow German teammate Shkodran Mustafi was not included in the squad. He has been out since the middle of December due to a thigh injury.
