Nürnberg want to put a dent in Ingolstadt’s promotion challenge

Current leaders FC Ingolstadt 04 host 1. FC Nürnberg on Monday evening (20:15) in the last game of matchday 31 in the 2. Bundesliga. Ingolstadt have the opportunity to take another step towards securing promotion. On the other hand, Nürnberg are in eleventh with 38 points to their name and are on course to stay up.

The table toppers from Ingolstadt are unbeaten in five matches (3W, 2D). The gap to second-placed Kaiserlautern is five points but manager Ralph Hasenhüttl isn’t getting ahead of himself. “59 points is not going to be enough,” he warned. In the past ten seasons, teams have needed at least 60 points to finish in the top two. The side will be without captain Marvin Matip, who is out for the rest of the season after breaking a bone in his arm.

FCN would like to end a rather dissatisfying season as best as possible. They celebrated a 2-0 victory over SV Sandhausen on the last matchday. The head-to-head record against FCI speaks in their favour: Nürnberg have won all three previous 2. Bundesliga matches. However, Hasenhüttl believes that "every run comes to an end. It’s time for us to put a stop to it on Monday!"
