No real injury concerns for Lahm, Neuer and Schweinsteiger

Philipp Lahm and Manuel Neuer have been given the all-clear, while there are high hopes for Bastian Schweinsteiger too. Germany coach Joachim Löw has no need to worry that the injuries sustained by three of his key players, all of whom play for double-winners Bayern Munich, could threaten their participation in the World Cup taking place between 12 June and 13 July in Brazil.

Schweinsteiger has sustained an injury to his left patellar tendon, though Löw is not overly concerned about his vice-captain. “I’ve spoken on the phone to Bastian and Dr. Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt. Both were very optimistic that the pain would disappear on Monday or Tuesday and that the player would return to full action in our training camp on Wednesday", revealed Löw to bild.de during the half-time show at the DFB Cup final.

"No need to worry"

Schweinsteiger also dismissed concerns about his injury to Sky. “It already looks a lot better. It happened last Saturday and it’s just a case of inflammation needing to heal. Our doctor Müller-Wohlfahrt has confirmed to me that there’s no real cause for concern. I’m confident I’ll be back in training by the middle or the end of next week.”

Captain Lahm and keeper Neuer sustained injuries in the DFB Cup final clash with Borussia Dortmund which the Bavarians won 2-0 after extra time, with knee problems ruling midfield strategist Schweinsteiger out of the Berlin showdown from the off.

Lahm picked up a knock on the left fibula against Dortmund and had to be substituted in the 30th minute. Fortunately, though, the 30-year-old’s injury does not appear serious, with only minor damage caused to the bone. “As far as I’m aware, it’s not particularly serious", said Lahm to ARD: “I’m hopeful that I can return to action in the next few days.”

"It’s really not that bad"

With the match still in full flow in the Olympiastadion, captain Lahm rang Löw in the stands to give his coach the all-clear. “It’s really not that bad, though I couldn’t stay on the pitch to help the team", he told Sky.

Neuer landed on his right shoulder as he attempted a clearance and subsequently played through the pain. Just like Lahm, though, there is no real danger that the injury suffered by the 28-year-old could rule him out of the World Cup.

The national team squad of 27 players will travel to a training camp in South Tyrol on Wednesday to begin preparations for this summer’s global showpiece.
