Niersbach voted into FIFA Executive Committee

Wolfgang Niersbach will be the German and European representative in FIFA’s Executive Committee for the next four years. The President of the German Football Association (DFB) was voted in by delegates of the national associations at the UEFA Congress in Vienna. His election into the highest committee in world football will be formally confirmed at the next FIFA Congress on 29th May 2015 in Zürich.

“It was a unanimous decision of the DFB Presidential Board to put me forward for the role. I see it as my role and my job to stand up for the interests of both German and European football. I believe it requires a joint effort to continue to develop football and to change it,” said Niersbach after the election.

Rauball: “Niersbach has the full trust of the league association”

League President Dr. Reinhard Rauball, who was part of the German delegation in Vienna, welcomed the election of the DFB President: “It’s important that German football is represented in this organisation by a strong voice. Wolfgang Niersbach has the full trust of the league association. He is the ideal choice for the role due to his international contacts and we pledge our full support to him.”

“Wolfgang Niersbach will have another task from May in addition to his role as President and his position on UEFA’s Executive Committee. The DFB will support him fully and back him so that he can fulfill his many national and international commitments,” added DFB General Secretary Helmut Sandrock.
