Niersbach re-elected as DFB President

Wolfgang Niersbach has been re-elected as President of the German Football Association (DFB), having received the votes of all 259 voting delegates at the 41st ordinary DFB Congress in Nuremberg. His new term of office runs until the next ordinary Congress in 2016.

"I'm extremely pleased with this clear vote and with the immense trust the Congress has placed in me. It is wonderful to have the full support of the state and regional associations and the League Association. I see it as an endorsement of my work and an incentive to continue along the same path", said Niersbach.

Niersbach joined the DFB in 1988. After spending several years as Press Officer, he played a decisive role in organising the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany as Vice President of the Organising Committee. Niersbach became DFB General Secretary in October 2007, leading the Association's central administration. He was elected DFB President at the extraordinary DFB Congress held in Frankfurt on 2 March 2012.

"I fully believe in the unity of football"

In his keynote speech, Niersbach outlined the main elements of his presidency, referring to the motto of this Congress meeting: Football is the future - United. Innovative. Strong. "I fully believe in the unity of football. From volunteers to professionals, from the grassroots to the elite: together we are strong," said the DFB President.

Under Niersbach's leadership, the Association is expected to undergo further modernisation with a firm commitment to elite performance, reinforcing grassroots participation, expanding the service it offers and stepping up its fight against match manipulation, doping, violence, extremism and discrimination in all its forms.

Niersbach concluded: "Only by mastering our core business can we credibly and sustainably carry out our key social duties in the future."
