Niersbach: "Praise is due to both teams"

DFB President Wolfgang Niersbach, General Secretary Helmut Sandrock, Joachim Löw and Oliver Bierhoff congratulate Champions League winners FC Bayern München.

Joachim Löw: Congratulations to Bayern Munich, and in particular to Jupp Heynckes, on winning the Champions League trophy. This was a high-class, high-octane affair right after every football fan's heart. Both teams impressively showed why they had gone through to the final, and both teams would have deserved to win it. Dortmund gave Bayern a run for their money, especially in the first half. After the break, Bayern got into their stride and eventually scored the winning goal. You could say that having featured in three Champions League finals over the last four years, it was probably just Bayern Munich's turn to win it this time.

Oliver Bierhoff: What a battle, and what footballing class! Europe has seen a truly great final. My congratulations go out to Jupp Heynckes – the crowing point of a fantastic coaching career that began at Borussia Mönchengladbach 34 years ago. I think we have been privileged to watch one of German football's finest hours.

Helmut Sandrock: Congratulations to FC Bayern Munich who've had to work hard for this trophy following a superb Bundesliga season. It's great to know that in a week from now, we'll be able to welcome Europe's best club side to the German Cup final in Berlin.

Wolfgang Niersbach: Praise is due to both teams, not just for providing sensational entertainment tonight, but also for being excellent ambassadors of German football over the entire UEFA Champions League season. My congratulations go out to FC Bayern who managed to shake off the disappointment of last year's bitter defeat. I am also happy for my long-time friend Jupp Heynckes for whom this is a wonderful moment to crown a unique coaching career.
