Niersbach: "Angerer, Neid and Heynckes have achieved incredible things"

German football celebrated a triumphant evening on Monday, picking up three awards at the FIFA Ballon d’Or ceremony at Zurich’s Kongresshaus. Nadine Angerer, European champion and UEFA Best Women’s Player in Europe 2013, was named FIFA Women’s World Player of the Year 2013. National team coach Silvia Neid received the FIFA World Coach of the Year for Women’s Football 2013 award, while Jupp Heynckes was named FIFA World Coach of the Year for Men’s Football 2013 for his treble-winning season with Bayern Munich. "First and foremost, receiving such an internationally-renowned award on the world stage is a great personal achievement for any prize-winner", said DFB President Wolfgang Niersbach on DFB.de. "Nadine Angerer, Silvia Neid and Jupp Heynckes have achieved incredible things and have been rightly honoured for that. The evening in Zurich also showed the high regard and respect in which German football is currently held worldwide."

Further reaction from Zurich

DFB General Secretary Helmut Sandrock: "I’m delighted for Silvia Neid and Nadine Angerer. I attended the European Championship in Sweden last summer and could see up close how well both the coach and Nadine performed with such a great team. It was impressive, and they have completely earned their awards. I’m also extremely happy for Jupp Heynckes. He had an impressive career both as a player and coach and achieved unbelievable success. Being named FIFA World Coach of the Year is the crowning achievement of his career."

Wolfsburg coach Ralf Kellermann: "I’d like to heartily congratulate Silvia Neid. All three nominations were deserved, but anyone who can win a European Championship with such a young team and so many injuries to key players deserves to win the award."
