Nicolas replaces Körber, Question marks over Amiri and Öztunali

The Germany U21 players are meeting up at their team hotel in Cottbus on Monday afternoon and beginning their preparations for their European Championship qualifiers against Azerbaijan on Friday and Norway on Tuesday 10th October (both KO 19:00 CEST). After beginning their qualification campaign with a 1-0 win against Kosovo last month, Stefan Kuntz’s team will want to continue their good start on their journey to the 2019 European Championships in Italy and San Marino.

Goalkeeper Nils Körber, on loan at Preußen Münster from Hertha, will not travel to Cottbus due to injury. Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Moritz Nicolas will take his place in the squad and so is part of the Germany U21 squad for the first time. Nadiem Amiri of TSG 1899 Hoffenheim and Levin Öztunali of 1. FSV Mainz 05 both have knocks and will be treated further at their clubs. Both attacking players will, however, travel to Cottbus in the coming days. Florian Neuhaus is still at Fortuna Düsseldorf ahead of their game this evening and will travel to the team camp tomorrow whilst Felix Passlack will join up with the squad on Wednesday for personal reasons. Coach Stefan Kuntz made a late decision on Saturday to call up attacker Luca Waldschmidt.
