Next title for Neuer? Vote for your DFB-Team Player of the Year!

The next title for Neuer? A crowning moment for Kroos? Special recognition for Schweinsteiger? Credit for Klose? Or will it be Lahm in the limelight? There are lots of candidates in the running for the Germany national team’s Player of the Year 2014, a vote held by the Fan Club Nationalmannschaft powered by Coca-Cola. There are also plenty of good arguments for each individual.

Your opinion counts and anyone can get involved! Just follow this link, select your favourite player and click “Abstimmen”. Voting is open until Friday, 9th January 2015 at 12:00 CET.

The 15 players that appeared in at least eight of the 17 international fixtures in 2014 are among the candidates. There are a further five wild cards of players that appeared in fewer than eight games, but were named Man of the Match at least once. They are Miroslav Klose, Erik Durm, Antonio Rüdiger, Julian Draxler and Ron-Robert Zieler.

The player that featured the most in 2014 was Toni Kroos. The midfielder played 16 of the 17 games, completing 1,468 of a possible 1,530 minutes. Thomas Müller and Mario Götze both played 15 times, although Müller’s tally of 1,251 minutes on the pitch is significantly higher than Götze’s 886. The players that made at least ten appearances are Jerome Boateng (14/1,251), Manuel Neuer (13/1,185), Benedikt Höwedes (13/1,085), André Schürrle (12/607), Mats Hummels (10/867), Mesut Özil (10/846) and Lukas Podolski (10/341).

The top scorers in 2014 were Thomas Müller with ten goals, Mario Götze with seven, André Schürrle with six, Toni Kroos with four and Miroslav Klose with three.
