New Wolfsburg signing Schürrle: “I’m extremely excited”

World Champion André Schürrle is now officially a “Wolf.” The new signing from Chelsea took part in a press conference with VfL Wolfsburg on Wednesday morning and spoke about the reasons behind the move and his expectations and hopes for the future. DFB.de took note of what we had to say.

André Schürrle on...

...the long wait before the transfer: I’m delighted that it happened. He last few days have been very stressful because I was sat looking at my phone for the whole day waiting for a call or a text. I was always certain that it would happen.

...the reasons behind the move: I wanted to stay but things developed over the last month which convinced me that I had to change something. Then Wolfsburg made an enquiry and the discussions with both the manager and the Chief Executive about their ideas went well. I’m extremely excited, I want to help the team and play my game.

...Joachim Löw’s opinion of the move: I spoke to him about whether he thought it was a good move and he sees it as an excellent step for me.

...the reaction of his Germany teammates: I’m always in contact with Mario Götze and Marco Reus. They’re happy that I’m back and that we can play against each other again in the same league.

...his role in the Wolfsburg team: I believe that I’m suitably flexible. We have a good team with great players. I am able to play anywhere up front. My favourite position is either on the left or in the middle, but at the end of the day it’s the manager’s decision.

...his aims with Wolfsburg: The 4-1 win against Bayern was impressive and that increased my anticipation even more. I want to fit into the team as quickly as possible. I’m sure the rest will take care of itself.

...the possibility of catching Bayern: We’ll all have to wait and see. Bayern are an outstanding team and I think that they’ll always be favourites to win the title. We have to pick up our points and see what we can achieve.
