Neuer's relief & delight for teammate Lewandowski

Neuer: My first reaction is to run back and try and chase the ball down. But I had a good view on the ball. For most of the way the shot looked like it was going in, but at the last moment it drifted wide and hit the outside of the post. I was obviously delighted about that!

Question: A big sigh of relief?

Five goals in nine minutes – Robert Lewandowski re-wrote the history books during FC Bayern München’s 5-1 win against VfL Wolfsburg. It was a performance that impressed everyone, including Manuel Neuer. In an interview with DFB.de, the 29-year-old German international and World Goalkeeper of the Year discusses his teammates five goal haul, as well as the Wolves’ opportunity to go 2-0 up in the first half.

Question: Mr. Neuer, can you yourself believe that Robert Lewandowski just scored five goals in nine minutes?

Manuel Neuer: It was an incredible experience. Lewy has made footballing history. First with the number of goals and also in the short space of time. They were absolutely brilliant goals. That was a one-off!

Question: Your Oktoberfest visit will surely be on him then?

Neuer: We’re having our Oktoberfest day out next week with FC Bayern and we’re all excited. But we have two games left to play before the then.

Question: What did Lewandowski have to say in the changing room about his five goals?

Neuer: I don’t know. He was in interviews the whole time. But I think that he is feeling very good right now.

Question: Was it a "heart in mouth" moment when you came rushing out in the first half and Wolfsburg almost made it 2-0?
