Neuer: "Kimmich played very well"

Pleased with the two away goals or disappointed at letting a 2-0 lead slip? It was a night of mixed emotions for FC Bayern München after they drew 2-2 with Juventus in the first leg of their round-of-16 tie. The same applies for World Goalkeeper of the Year Manuel Neuer, who was helpless to prevent the home side's two goals but also denied a superb chance for Juan Cuadrado. In an interview with DFB.de, the 29-year-old World Cup winner spoke about the draw in Turin, the feeling in the team after the game and their chances for the return leg at the Allianz Arena.

Question: Mr Neuer, did the 2-2 draw feel like a win or a loss to you?

Manuel Neuer: For me, it felt like a draw.

Question: And how do you assess that?

Neuer: It's obviously frustrating that we didn't see out the game and won't go into the return leg with a 2-0 lead. The result could have been a lot better for us. Above all, we need to continue to play the same way we did today. We want to play at home just as we did in the first half here. That would give us a good chance of making the next round.

Question: It was an almost perfect performance from your team for a long period…

Neuer: Yes, we played very well against a very strong team. We've played like that quite a few times, but obviously not against Juventus.

Question: How did it come to Juventus scoring twice?

Neuer: It got a bit hectic after Juve had one or two good chances. The atmosphere increased a bit and Juve responded to that. There were also certainly a few errors from us that allowed them back into the game.

Question: Did you ever think about the injured centre backs, such as Jérôme Boateng, who missed out?

Neuer: We don't need to talk about the players who aren't available to us. I think that we did a good job regardless.

Question: Did Joshua Kimmich need to be consoled after the role he played in Juventus' two goals?

Neuer: No, not at all. He played very well. I think that the media will hold back a bit with such a young player. There's no single player responsible for the goals we conceded.

Question: What did you make of Arturo Vidal on his return to Turin?

Neuer: He was very good. When you return to a stadium where you were a fan favourite, it's always something special for a player. Arturo put in a very good performance and for that I take my hat off to him.

Question: What effect do the result and the way the game played out have on the return leg on 16th March in Munich?

Neuer: I should emphasise again that it's not a terrible result, but I'll go home feeling somewhat disappointed as it had the potential to be a perfect score for us. That's the overriding emotion at the moment.
