Neuer: "Ingolstadt were a real challenge"

As the Oktoberfest opened its gates, FC Bayern München earned a hard-fought victory on Bundesliga matchday 3 against fellow Bavarian side FC Ingolstadt. The visitors took an early lead in the Allianz Arena, with keeper Manuel Neuer beaten for the first time this season. After the game the Germany stopper talked about conceding the goal, their opponent’s strong display and rotation in the line-up.

Question: Mr. Neuer, what is your take on the game and on conceding an early goal?

Manuel Neuer: It was one of those situations where we could've conceded a foul beforehand. There is always a chance that you can concede a goal. But the important thing is that you can also manage to come back from a deficit and we had enough time for that. Fortunately we scored the equaliser in the first half. We then created chances to take the lead ourselves and add to our advantage in the second half.

Question: There were a lot of changes in the team. Did it impact the quality of your performance?

Neuer: We have a good team and a deep squad. The players that were sidelined today had enjoyed plenty of matches recently. You do notice that.

Question: To what extent?

Neuer: We played in an entirely new formation. Some players that haven’t played that much were in the starting eleven. Naturally that means that certain aspects don’t always work out as you would hope. But these improved throughout the game and you could notice that too today.

Question: Could you be more precise?

Neuer: I don't want to say that we were insecure. But our passing game out from the back, which we also saw in Schalke, produced several mistakes and it was the same today. Ingolstadt did well and were a real challenge.

Question: Coach Carlo Ancelotti announced that he would attending the Oktoberfest on Sunday. What will training be like on Monday?

Neuer: I don't know what state he will be in then. I won't be going to the Oktoberfest this weekend, but I'll keep a close eye on what happens.
