Neid calls up U20 World Champion Lena Petermann

Preparation for the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup in Canada begins in earnest now, with Germany having called up 24 players for the upcoming friendlies. Head Coach Silvia Neid has included three U20 World Champions in her squad for the games against France in Offenbach (25th October, 14:00 CEST) and Sweden in Örebro (29th October, 18:00 CET). Lena Petermann has been included in the senior squad for the first time, whilst her fellow U20 teammates Sara Däbritz and Pauline Bremer return to the team. Petermann, a 20 year old attacker, scored the extra-time winner against Nigeria in Montreal in August.

Head Coach Silvia Neid said: “Lena played very well in the U20 World Cup and is an interesting player. Now she needs to press on and continue her development. We are excited to see how she will perform.” Lena Goeßling remains unavailable, as she is yet to recover from her foot injury.

After the upcoming games against France and Sweden, Germany face England on 23rd September (15:30 CET) at Wembley Stadium. Neid said: “We need these big matches to progress as individuals and as a team. I expect these games to be tough. Games against Sweden are always special. Our past few meetings have been tight and hardly fought. They have world-class players in every position.”

The players link-up on Tuesday, 21st October in order to prepare for the games. After the match against France in Offenbach, the team plan to fly to Örebo on 27th October.
