Neid announces World Cup squad

Germany head coach Silvia Neid has announced her squad for the World Cup in Canada (6th June – 5th July), consisting of 20 outfield players and three keepers. 18 European Champions from 2013 are on board, and three players who won the U20 World Cup in Canada last year.

Keeper Lisa Weiß (SGS Essen), Kathrin Hendrich (1. FFC Frankfurt) and Anna Blässe (VfL Wolfsburg) were not included in the final squad despite being selected in the preliminary one. Neid said: "We were able to gather many impressions over the past few weeks and had intense discussions amongst the coaching staff. In the end, minor details made the difference. It was really a close decision."

Lena Petermann (SC Freiburg) and Pauline Bremer (1. FFC Turbine Potsdam) won the World Cup with the U20s last year but are yet to play for the first team. "Lena has developed continually throughout the past months and has left a great impression. Pauline reached the levels she displayed at the U20 World Cup. She had some injury misfortune recently, but we know how great her potential is. Both are important players in the teams' future."

Germany face Switzerland on 27th May (17:00 CEST) in Baden in their final test game before the World Cup. On 31st May they set off for Canada, before taking on the Ivory Coast in their first group encounter on 7th June (22:00 CEST).
