Nadine Keßler named Women's World Footballer of the Year

Germany international Nadine Keßler has been named the Women’s World Footballer of the Year. The 26-year-old, who won the Bundesliga and Champions League with VfL Wolfsburg in 2014, finished ahead of Brazil’s Marta and Abby Wambach (USA).

Keßler received 17.52% of the votes. Marta was second (14.16%) and Wambach came third (13.33%). The player, who won the 2013 European Championship, is the third German to receive the honour after Birgit Prinz (2003-2005) and Nadine Angerer (2014).

"My heart is beating incredibly fast. I never thought that I would achieve something like this. I'd like to thank a few people: My coach, my club, my team and also the Germany set-up. I'd also like to thank my family and the doctors who have helped me, your support has been crucial," explained Keßler.
