Nadine Kessler named UEFA ambassador

Former Germany international Nadine Kessler has been named UEFA ambassador within the scope of the U19 Women's European Championships in Slovakia. "It's a huge honour that I was asked by UEFA to become an ambassador for the development of Women's football," said the 28-year-old. "I look forward to getting to know girls and women, who share my passion for football and to travelling throughout Europe helping to promote and develop Women's football."

Kessler joins an elite team of ambassadors: Camille Abily, Verónica Boquete, Laura Georges, Stephanie Houghton and Lotta Schelin are leading the way in the development of Women's football. "As a former player, I can tell my story, share my experiences and talk about the things I learned during my career," said the 2014 Women's Football Player of the Year on her new challenge. Kessler was forced to end her career in April due to a reoccurring knee injury.

During her active career the attacking midfielder participated at the U19 Euros in 2006 and 2007. She was their top scorer on both occasions and lifted the crown in 2006. She won the UEFA Women's Champions League three times - with Potsdam (2009/10) and Wolfsburg (2012/13 and 2013/14). Furthermore she won the German Bundesliga title four times and in 2013 she was crowned European Champion with the DFB Team. She made 29 appearances for Germany.
