Mustafi and Valencia on course for the Champions League

World Champion Shkodran Mustafi and Spanish first division side FC Valencia are on track to qualify for next season’s Champions League. The six-time champions of Spain had to settle for a 1-1 draw with Rayo Vallecano on matchday 34 but did return to fourth place thanks to the point. However, the Blanquinegros are only ahead of Sevilla FC on goal difference.

Embarba fired Rayo Vallecano into the lead in the 19th minute before Parejo restored parity with a free kick with just 25 minutes to go (65’). In the closing stages of the game, Vallecano’s Paco Jémez (72’) and Valencia’s Rodrigo (77’) were both given their marching orders. Mustafi was brought off in the 68th minute.
