Müller not celebrating: "Next important game on Tuesday"

FC Bayern München are one step away from claiming their 25th Bundesliga title following their 1-0 victory against Hertha BSC on matchday 30. They currently hold a 15-point cushion over second-placed Wolfsburg and due to their superior goal difference, they've all but secured the title. However, for Thomas Müller there is no hurry to celebrate their title defence ahead of their DFB Cup semi final clash with Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday (20:30 CEST). The 25-year-old talks about postponing the title party, the upcoming semi-finals and the current personnel situation at FCB.

Question: Mr. Müller, why were the celebrations rather reserved after you essentially secured the Bundesliga title against Hertha?

Thomas Müller: First of all, it's not 100 percent certain yet and secondly, because we still have a couple of very important games coming up in the next few weeks. However, we know what we have achieved this season. I don't believe in mathematical miracles and I don't think anything will go wrong for us in the league. I definitely expect us to secure at least a point from our remaining games.

Question: Do you think that it's a shame that you can't celebrate now?

Müller: Of course it's a bit of a shame that the league title won't be celebrated immediately, especially because it's the trophy that we work hard for all year. But we wouldn't have been able to celebrate anyway, because we have a really important game to play on Tuesday.

Question: Has the Bundesliga championship lost some of its importance because FC Bayern are so used to winning it?

Müller: Our lead in the Bundesliga is quite high and that's what makes it a little less exciting. On the other hand, it's exactly what is expected of us. Obviously, if someone guarantees that we will win the title; I wouldn’t mind securing it on the final matchday. There are, however, no guarantees.

Question: In the game against Hertha, did you ever think about the upcoming DFB Cup semi final with Dortmund or the Champions League encounters with Barcelona?

Müller: We are all human and of course these games lurk in the back of our heads somewhere. We are all aware that Tuesday's game with Dortmund is very important and that we can book a ticket for the final. That's what will focus on from now on.

Question: How much are you looking forward to the clash with BVB on Tuesday?

Müller: You definitely look forward to it. A home game against Dortmund is always something special and always an emotional event. It will be a great a battle.

Question: How would you describe the condition of FC Bayern currently?

Müller: There are no problems physically in my opinion. Players are returning one after the other now. We even had an 18-man squad against Hertha.

Question: A squad that struggled…

Müller: It's true, we lacked intensity in that game, also because Hertha were playing very defensive. We played a lot of passes and didn’t need to run that much.

Question: How would you rate Hertha's performance?

Müller: Looking back at Hertha's games in recent weeks, you will notice that they didn't score that many goals. They came here unbeaten from their last seven games, which is in part due to their well organised defence.
