Müller: “I had butterflies in my stomach”

After the match come the microphones; reports ask and players answer. Every Monday, DFB compiles the thoughts of Germany internationals on their Bundesliga games. Today is the turn of Thomas Müller, Mats Hummels, Matthias Ginter and Julian Draxler.

Bayern München 2-1 FC Augsburg

Thomas Müller: We were a little bit slow with the ball. Despite this we did manage to create chances, but couldn’t use them. The penalty was certainly a high pressure situation for me, especially to make it 2-1 in the 90th minute. I had butterflies in my stomach, like all experience players do.

Hannover 96 2-4 Borussia Dortmund

Mats Hummels: It was a very exciting match, which is exactly what we expected. The games here in Hannover have always been very tight, usually with us coming out on top. If I remember correctly, I have only lost here once. There have been a lot of close, competitive games in the past, just like today. We only managed to put the game to bed after our fourth goal; it was very open up until that point. We executed our game plan well, and controlled the game from the beginning. The 1-0 was not in the script, but we were dominant both before and after. We didn’t give them much, but the chances they created were very good which is why they were able to score twice. We’re not particularly pleased with that aspect of the match.

Matthias Ginter: I feel very comfortable at the moment, especially in the full back position. It’s a mixture between centre half and defensive midfield, so it didn’t take long to adjust to. Both full backs play very high, and it’s really very enjoyable at the moment.

Ron-Robert Zieler: The loss is very frustrating. The way in which we conceded was extremely unlucky. The way our team played today was very pleasing, the attitude and the passion with which we approached the match is very commendable. We made the game very open today and fought back well to make it 2-2. It was even bitterer then to concede the 2-3. It was clear that BVB were going to enjoy a little bit more possession. Despite this we played very well for long periods of the game, and created good chances for ourselves up front.

FC Schalke 04 2-1 1. FSV Mainz 05

Leon Goretzka: It was a completely deserved win for us. The only thing we did wrong was not taking all our chances. I have not experienced many games where we were able to carve out so many opportunities in the opening exchanges. Overall we performed well as a team, and I was very pleased with my own performance. Of course I wish I had got a goal in the first half, but the partnership with Max Meyer worked well and I am pleased to have been on the pitch from the first minute. It’s no secret that we understand each other very well. The victory was important in terms of climbing up the table, and the way in which we won was very pleasing.

FC Ingolstadt 0-0 VfL Wolfsburg

Julian Draxler: We didn’t play as well as we can, especially in the first half. In the second half we were really pushing, and managed to create a few chances – unfortunately we couldn’t get the ball over the line. Ingolstadt are riding on a bit of a wave at the moment, and we expected them to throw everything at us. They did very well. We didn’t dominant as much as we perhaps could have. I was pleased to get 90 minutes on the pitch, and that I was involved in a few chances throughout the match.
