Müller and Maier enter Hall of Fame

1974 World Cup winners and 1972 European champions Gerd Müller, 68, and Sepp Maier, 70, have been admitted to the virtual Hall of Fame of German sport, which already includes sporting idols such as football’s Franz Beckenbauer and Uwe Seeler, boxing’s Max Schmeling, tennis legend Steffi Graf and alpine skiing great Rosi Mittermaier.

81 athletes and sporting personalities have now been added to the Hall of Fame since it was launched in 2006. Striker Müller, who scored 68 goals in 62 international appearances, and goalkeeper Maier won numerous titles with Bayern Munich and the German national side during their careers.

The German Sports Aid Foundation, German Olympic Sports Association (DOSB) and the Association of German Sports Journalists are responsible for nominating candidates for inclusion in the Hall of Fame.
