Müller and Götze star as Bayern dismantle BVB

The goal galvanised Guardiola’s men and they almost doubled their advantage immediately but Lewandowski failed to convert after great play from Götze. The lead was extended moments later when Müller converted from the spot. Henrikh Mkhitaryan gave away the penalty – he fouled Thiago in the box. The visitors instantly went down the other end and got one back thanks to Aubameyang, which saw the Gabon international maintain his record of netting in every Bundesliga game of the season.

The second half couldn’t have started better for the hosts - Lewandowski made it 3-1 within the first 60 seconds. The Poland international grabbed his second 12 minutes later and Mario Götze put the icing on the cake in the 66th minute when he made it 5-1.

World Cup winner Thomas Müller grabbed a brace as FC Bayern München recorded a stunning 5-1 victory over Borussia Dortmund on matchday eight. He netted twice before the break (26’, 35’), with Bayern’s other goals coming from former BVB duo Robert Lewandowski (46’, 58’) and Mario Götze (66’). Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (36’) grabbed Dortmund’s goal before the break.

The results sees Bayern continue their dominance in the table and are already in a strong position in the title race. They have won all eight of their league games this term and are already seven points clear of BVB and eight of Schalke.

Dortmund have now lost their first game under Thomas Tuchel – they were unbeaten in their previous 14 competitive games under his stewardship. Having started the season strongly, they are now three league games without a win.

Dortmund start strongly

Bvrave, dynamic and tough in the tackle – Borussia got off to a strong start in the sold out Allianz Arena and caused Bayern problems early on. The hosts’ defence were slow out of the box and David Alaba was booked after just four minutes for a late foul on Aubameyang.

BVB boss Tuchel deployed Sven Bender centrally along Mats Hummels and Sokratis was tasked with stopping Douglas Costa. Joachim Löw and DFB President Wolfgang Niersbach were treated to an intense and enthralling game.

Müller gets the ball rolling

Bayern’s first real chance of the game came in the 24th minute but Costa was unable to beat Bürki in the Dortmund goal, however, they took the lead two minutes later. A classy long ball from World Cup winner Jerome Boateng found Müller, who skilfully rounded the BVB keeper before slotting home.
