Maximilian Arnold: "It's a horrible feeling"

VfL Wolfsburg narrowly missed out on pulling off a mammoth shock against Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-finals. Germany U21 international Maximilian Arnold and his side went into the second leg with a 2-0 lead from last week but lost 3-0 in the Santiago Bernabeu and crashed out against the Spanish giants. The 21-year-old spoke to DFB.de about his team's devastating exit from the competition.

Question: Mr Arnold, how are you feeling after going out of the Champions League?

Maximilian Arnold: Absolutely gutted.

Question: Did Real just put you under too much pressure?

Arnold: I don't think so. I played a poor pass just before they scored their first and it invited them to attack. It's a horrible feeling and I feel bad for my team.

Question: You seem very frustrated, is that because you feel in part responsible for the loss?

Arnold: Because I played a shocking ball for their first goal. It all went from there.

Question: You lost the ball straight from kick-off after the first goal. What happened?

Question: You lost the ball straight from kick-off after the first goal. What happened?

Arnold: I don't know. It was a problem in communication. The referee had already blown.

Question: What was the main reason it didn't work out today?

Arnold: Perhaps it was our execution. We lacked precision in our game and that obviously made things harder for us.

Question: Can you at least take comfort from the fact that Wolfsburg made things hard for Real Madrid, who are one of the favourites for the trophy?

Arnold: We got knocked out so I don't know if we can say we did such a great job. It's great to play in the Champions League but I have nothing positive to add at the moment.
