Max Kruse on Wolfsburg's opening win: "We have the quality"

It’s Monday and the weekend’s action is over, so DFB.de have gathered up the post-match quotes from Germany internationals over the weekend. What do they say about their performances? Outstanding or uninspiring? Today we have quotes from Marco Reus, Max Kruse, Johannes Geis and Timo Horn.

Bayern Munich 5-0 Hamburger SV
Thomas Müller: “It was a super team performance today. We showed again that and are still hungry for more success and we won’t settle for just 3-0 – we go for more. We want to keep this mentality.”

Bor. Dortmund 4-0 Bor. Mönchengladbach
Marco Reus: “That was a real test, but we’ve come out on top. We wanted to start the league at a high level and came up against a really strong opponent – Gladbach had been the best team of the second half of last season. We put them under pressure from the beginning and forced them into making errors. It was important that we also took our chances. On the whole we passed the ball round well, kept our shape, stayed calm and waited for our chances. Our performance was terrific from the first minute to the last, so the win is completely deserved.” Mats Hummels: “We carried out our game plan very well. If we carry on like this then we can be very successful. We can be very happy with our start to the season – four games and four wins without conceding. Honestly it was a bit of a fluke that I was involved in the goal because the others were the ones to finish it so well. Of course it’s nice that it came out so well. It’s been so far so good and we want to, and will, build on this. But we don’t want to get ahead of ourselves; it’s still way too early for that.”

Bayer Leverkusen 2-1 TSG Hoffenheim
Kevin Volland: “We had a good game against a very strong opponent today. It was a lot better when compared to the cup match. In the second half we just couldn’t make the all-important passes in the right areas. But we had really good spells during the match, and we can build on this.”

Werder Bremen 0-3 Schalke 04
Johannes Geis: “Above all we wanted an away win, and so we’re happy. Werder didn’t make it easy for us, and played very well. We were up to the challenge though, and were very lucky with the own goal. Having said that, it’s not every day you win 3-0 at Bremen. We know we still have things to improve, but that’s perfectly normal. We are not yet where we want to be, but have taken a step in the right direction. We won in Duisburg, and now we’ve won in Bremen. Everyone knows how difficult it is to win in Bremen. Our chemistry could have been slightly better, but other than that it was a very good day.”

Darmstadt 98 2-2 Hannover 96
Ron-Robert Zieler: “We were at fault for the goals. If we hadn’t made the individual mistakes then we would’ve had a better chance of taking the win. We have to learn from that. I saw some good performers – both teams had their chances, and if we’d scored at the right moments then we would’ve won. But it goes without saying that not everything can work like that.”

VfL Wolfsburg 2-1 Eintracht Frankfurt
Max Kruse: “We didn’t exactly get into the game. Frankfurt were really on the money, and that worried us. But then we got two quick goals and conceded an unnecessary one too. But then we had the quality to see the game out and gave them no more chances.”

VfB Stuttgart 1-3 1. FC Köln
Jonas Hector: “We came up against a good opposition today who put a lot of pressure on us. We got into the game with Mat’s (Matthias Lehmann) shot that hit the post, but when we had some situations where got lucky. Going 1-0 up was a catalyst and we managed to break their morale a little. We then made things a bit more entertaining but at the end of the day we’ve left with the three points – and that’s what counts.” Timo Horn: “I can’t recall an opening weekend win for Köln, it’s been so long.”
