Matchday 9 reaction from Germany stars

FC Bayern and Borussia Mönchengladbach played out a goalless draw and Real Madrid won 3-1 in el clásico. After a dramatic weekend of action involving Germany internationals, we spoke to some of the key protagonists.

Borussia Mönchengladbach 0–0 FC Bayern München

Manuel Neuer: "I’ve been in good form all season, even though I haven’t been tested too often. I was tested in Rome too, so I know I’m in good form.”

Thomas Müller: "We did all we could to score, but Gladbach defended strongly. They were dangerous on the counter. Happy probably isn’t the right word, but we can be content with the point. Manuel Neuer was in great form and kept us in the game. He showed just how good a goalkeeper he is once again.”

Christoph Kramer: "If Bayern München didn’t have Neuer in goal, we would have scored. We matched one of the toughest teams in the league. The table doesn’t lie, after nine matches we are the second best team in Germany.”

Borussia Dortmund 0–1 Hannover 96

Mats Hummels: "If we took our chances we would have won the game 3-0. Unfortunately, we didn’t and lost the game. It’s the same old story. I didn’t think it was a free kick and I was surprised to see the ball hit the back of the net, as it was in the air for a long time.”

Marco Reus: "We need to enjoy our football again and keep a cool head. To talk about our Champions League performances would be counterproductive at the minute.”

Ron-Robert Zieler: "It’s great to stop Dortmund scoring. I’ve played here a lot and never kept a clean sheet. I hope that we can continue our good form in the cup and against Frankfurt next weekend.”

Bayer Leverkusen 1–0 Schalke 04

Benedikt Höwedes: "We wanted to nullify Leverkusen’s pressing game by using the long ball. It worked well, but then the game was settled by a free kick. We didn’t create too many chances in the game. We need to play our own way and not cause ourselves unnecessary problems. I’m certain that we will pick up points next weekend.”

1899 Hoffenheim 1–0 SC Paderborn

Kevin Volland: "I’m delighted with the team’s performance. I’m happy to have scored. It was a big game for us. It was an important victory, which we’re delighted with.”

Real Madrid 3–1 FC Barcelona

Toni Kroos: "It was my first clásico and we won 3-1! I’m delighted.”
